Activists Continue Push for Immigration Reform Vote

Posted in: Blog
Activists are really hiking up the volume on immigration reform, pushing for a vote before Congress adjourns for the year in less than a month. There is some talk that legislators may stay until Christmas Eve to get everything done before the holiday, but right now the calendar says they’re leaving in mid-December.
Supporters of CIR say there’s always hope as long as Congress is in session, and while some have thrown in the towel, Congressional Hispanic Caucus chairman Rubén Hinojosa insists the issue is still alive and well .
“Let me set the record straight,” he said. “Comprehensive immigration reform is not dead in the House. The time for excuses is over. The time for action is now.”
Like many supports of CIR, Hinojosa blames the Republican majority. “Where is House Republican Leadership on this issue? They won’t allow a vote on the issue even though the Senate passed a bill months ago.”
